6 run outburst ensures Baysox victory

BaysoxBowie erupted for six runs in the second inning and did not look back in an 8-2 win Sunday night in Altoona to jump back in sole possession of first place in the Eastern League’s West. The win ended a stretch of five consecutive losses to the Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

With one down in the second inning, former Curve OF Quincy Latimore doubled to the left-center field wall. Later Bowie loaded the bases and LF Johnny Ruettiger singled to right field to plate the first run. With two down and the bags loaded, CF Mike Yastrzemski hit a chopper over the mound. Cutting in front of the second base bag, Altoona 2B Max Moroff gloved and tried a no-look backwards flip. It was errant and two runs scored on the play ruled an infield RBI-single and an error.

Immediately following, 1B Trey Mancini crushed a three-run hoe run over the bleachers in left field. For Manicini it was his fifth home run with Bowie and his 13th overall on the season. It doubled the Baysox lead to 6-0.

Bowie got an efficient start from Joe Gunkel (5-2) who worked through 5 and 1/3rd innings. He gave way to RHP Mychal Givens with a run in and the bases loaded. Givens got out of the inherited jam. Altoona loaded the bases in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and had just two runs to show for it. The Curve left 11-men on base in the game.

Big league rehabber Jason Garcia battled through two scoreless innings walking three batters. 3B Brandon Snyder registered his fourth consecutive multi-hit game going 2-for-5 with a run scored. Bowie also gained a game on Akron, Richmond and Harrisburg who were all defeated on Sunday.

The Baysox wrap up play before the brief all-star break on Monday afternoon with a noon start. RHP Terry Doyle will get the starting nod looking for his organizational best tenth win. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch on 1430wnav.com, baysox.com and by searching Baysox via the Tune-In Radio App.

Bowie returns home after the all-star break on Thursday, July 16th hosting the Washington Nationals affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators in a four-game series. Get tickets by calling 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com.
