American Healing Arts Alliance, Inc.
AHAA is a non-profit educational alliance of healing arts and sciences organizations, educators, practitioners, students and supportive individuals. AHAA sponsors regional healing arts events and international inner peace building educational programs. Volunteers, age 18 and up, are needed to help with our on-going programs and special events. Chesapeake Legal Alliance
Chesapeake Legal Alliance (CLA), a nonprofit organization in Annapolis, MD, uses the law to protect and restore the Chesapeake Bay. Our goal is to achieve a Bay with clean water, abundant native plants and animals, and opportunities for people to enjoy the Bay safely. CLA coordinates a network of attorneys who provide free legal services to individuals, environmental organizations, and community groups working to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed. Family Tree
The Family Tree’s mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing family support and education that promote well-being among Maryland families. Volunteers, over 18, are needed for child nurturers to create a safe, structured, weekly Children’s Program in North County. Volunteers, over 21, are needed as parent educators in North and South Counties to co-teach a Positive Parenting Course in 12-week intervals. Volunteers, over 21, are needed to run the “tot-line”, which is an emergency response (medical or otherwise) resource for parents with children under the age of 5; volunteers with experience/training in child development are preferred. Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating–Fourth Sundays Through Oct.
CRAB promotes the joy of sailing in specially modified boats to persons with disabilities and their families. CRAB volunteer skippers, crewmembers and dockhands offer monthly “SailFree” events every fourth Sunday of the month from April through October from 10 am-4 pm at the Marina at Sandy Point State Park. Volunteers are needed year round as members of the Board of Directors, to assist with sailing programs for children of Central Special School and MD School for the Blind, fleet, & equipment maintenance, and more. Food Link
Established in 1991, this non-profit hunger relief organization provides free food and other essentials to people in need in Anne Arundel County and four counties on the Eastern Shore. Volunteers with trucks or vans are needed to pick up food from distribution centers, restaurants and others and deliver to food pantries, shelters and other locations serving the hungry, and assist with emergency food pantry and emergency baby pantry items. Friends of Back Creek Nature Park
This nonprofit organization assists the City of Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department with the preservation, Juvenile Service restoration, and enhancement of the park. Volunteers of all ages are welcome from supervised youngsters to adults, including Master Gardeners. There are a myriad of other opportunities for participating in and supporting the BCNP mission, including board and general members, volunteers, project leaders, donors, partners, sponsors, etc. Projects can be carved out for volunteers who want to come by at their convenience and take responsibility for a particular sub-task or project. Guiding Eyes for the Blind
This nonprofit organization serves the Bay Region by raising puppies as potential future guide dogs. Volunteer puppy raisers are needed to provide the love, support and direction these puppies need to prepare them for formal training. Volunteer raisers (as young as 13 with parental supervision) take puppies into their homes for fourteen to eighteen months and teach them manners and social skills. Parks and People Foundation
Since 1984, Parks & People Foundation has worked to improve the quality of life in Baltimore’s neighborhoods by helping to improve the physical, social and environmental quality of neighborhoods through greening activities and forming networks among communities to sustain natural resources. Power Hawks Robotics Club, Inc.
The Power Hawks are a group of adult mentors, volunteers and students dedicated to the practical education of future engineers based in Edgewater, MD. These motivated students annually design and build a robot to compete regionally and nationally in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition and Tech Challenge. The Power Hawks improve their science, technology, engineering, and math skills, learn to cooperatively problem solve and develop self-confidence, soft-skills and leadership.
