Paramedic service was enhanced earlier this month in the Shady Side area of the County with the upgrade of an existing Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance to an Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic unit at the Avalon Shores Fire Station.
In the past, Emergency Medical Services from the Avalon Shores Station were delivered via a BLS ambulance and a first response paramedic engine company. Upgrading the BLS ambulance to a paramedic unit increases the ALS transport ability in Shady Side and surrounding areas. The engine company will continue to provide BLS first response capability, although it will frequently staffed by paramedics.
