McBride Gallery celebrates 35 years on Main Street

John Payne, Milk Delivery, oil at McBride GalleryMcBride Gallery opens their 35th Anniversary exhibit on June 7th with a reception to meet the artists from 1-4pm. The public is invited to enjoy the new exhibition of paintings, sculpture and ceramics from over 50 artists.

In June of 1980 McBride Gallery first opened its doors at 117 Main Street in space previously occupied by Jack’s Reliable, a clothing store catering to waterman, carpenters and farmers. Ten years later the gallery moved to 215 Main Street into an old colonial home providing more space. The gallery had expanded from the initial 10 artists to 50 artists, now 70 painters, sculptors and ceramic artists from across the country.

The gallery began featuring larger exhibitions, adding art services as requests arose: art restoration, appraisals, installation and recently, art publishing.

This 35th Anniversary exhibit will feature 50 artists’ work, including three who started with the gallery in 1980, Gerald Hennesy, Linda Roberts and Pat Buckley Moss, and some who only began exhibiting in the past year.
