Baysox beat Thunder, lightning in win

BaysoxThe Baysox battled through some nasty weather in a rain-shortened seven inning 5-3 win over the Trenton Thunder Saturday night. The game was called after the top of the seventh inning due to severe weather in the area.

Orioles RHP Miguel Gonzalez made the start of the Baysox on a MLB Rehab Assignment. He threw five innings and allowed two  runs on four hits while striking out four and walking one in the win. He became the first Orioles pitcher in three tries to earn a win with the Baysox in a rehab start.

He was joined by Orioles teammate second baseman Jonathan Schoop who batted leadoff for the Baysox also on a rehab assignment. He went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

Trenton struck quickly in the top of the first inning against Gonzalez. Tony Renda hit a one-out double to third base and Aaron Judge followed with a two-out home run to left-center field to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead.

With bad weather approaching, the Baysox came back to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning against Trenton starter Miguel Sulbaran. Brandon Snyder drew a lead-off walk and moved to third base on a Mike Yastrzemski double to left field. Glynn Davis followed with a double to left field that plated both runners. David Freitas singled to left field to move Davis to third base where he scored on a Drew Dosch single to left field to give Bowie a 3-2 lead.

The Baysox added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Snyder doubled to left-center field and moved to third base on a Mancini single to left field. Yastrzemski brought both runners home with another double down the right field line to make the score 5-2.

Reliever Ashur Tolliver pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn his first save of the season. He allowed three hits while walking two batters and striking out three. Sulbaran took the loss for Trenton, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking two.
