Motorist missing after flash flood sweeps truck away in Maryland City

FD_BannerOne motorist is missing after the vehicle they were operating was reportedly swept off of Brock Bridge Road by high water. Around 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Anne Arundel County 911 received a report from a motorist who witnessed a vehicle described as a small white pickup truck being swept off the roadway in the 8200 block of Brock Bridge Road. Firefighters and paramedics, including Special Operations divers and swift water swimmers from Anne Arundel and Howard County responded to the scene. Search operations were conducted for several hours from the point the vehicle was last seen and down river. The point last seen was approximately 1200 feet west of the bridge over the little Patuxent River. The search failed to locate the vehicle.

Periodically through the day on Tuesday, units returned to the area to complete visual searches as the flood waters receded.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., Anne Arundel County Police investigating the area in response to a missing person call located the white pickup truck in the water, approximately 150 feet south of the bridge. Firefighters and Special Operations personnel returned to the scene and were able to conduct a search of the vehicle and surrounding waters and the shore lines in the area. The flood waters had receded approximately 15 feet from the time of the initial 911 call in the morning. Personnel searched the water and shoreline for several hours before suspending the search for the night.

Search operations have resumed this morning and will continue through the day if necessary.
