Latimore lifts Baysox in extras

BaysoxQuincy Latimore broke a tenth inning tie with a solo home run to left field and reliever Mychal Givens dramatically finished off Trenton in a 3-2 series opening win Tuesday night.

Latimore did so with two outs in the tenth inning. He lifted his third home run of the season to left field to give Bowie their first lead since the first inning.

Then Givens came on. Thunder 2B Ali Castillo reached on an infield single and C Gary Sanchez lined a base hit to right field and Castillo went from first base to third. Given beared down. In a double digit pitch duel, he struck out 3B Dante Bichette Jr. He then quickly disposed of RF Mason Williams and DH Jose Rosario both via the strikeout to end the ballgame.

Bowie got a fantastic effort from starter Parker Bridwell whose changeup was a force in the game. Bridwell, the Eastern League’s strikeouts leader, tied a season high with nine strikeouts in six innings of work. His lone blemish was a two-run home run allowed to Sanchez in the fourth inning.

Reliever Kenn Kasparek worked his fourth consecutive scoreless outing for the win. The sidewinding eight-hander (3-0) worked three scoreless innings. Givens notched his sixth save.

Another daytime game follows for the Baysox as Branden Kline takes the hill for a 10:30 a.m. start in Trenton on Wednesday, May 20th. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch on 1430wnav.com and via the Tune-In Radio App by searching Bowie Baysox.
