lacrosseMaurice “Maury” LaPointe, standout midfielder on Anne Arundel Community College’s 1994 and 1995 Men’s Lacrosse teams, is one of 10 new members being inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s ninth Hall of Fame on Friday, May 8 at the Community College of Baltimore College-Essex.

“This is a great honor,” LaPointe said. While playing at AACC, “I was surrounded by great players and coaches. I wouldn’t be here without them.”

LaPointe was named to the first-team All-America team in 1994 and to the second-team All-America team in 1995, was part of the All-Region’s team both years and played a critical role in AACC’s appearance in the Men’s Lacrosse Championship finals in 1994, where he made the All-Tournament team and in the team’s semifinals appearance the following year.

He transferred on a lacrosse scholarship to University of Maryland, lettering in 1996 and 1997 and earning the Unsung Hero award in his senior year. He graduated from Maryland in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and received a master’s degree in business administration in 2006 at the University of Baltimore.

LaPointe was coached by Bud Beardmore and Bill Gorrow at AACC and credits the college’s academics and lacrosse program for preparing him to be a student-athlete at University of Maryland. He has stayed close to the game, coaching in the Howard County Youth Lacrosse Tyker Program.
