The Baysox battled all night. Down 5-1 in the sixth inning, the Baysox cut into the Curve advantage. They loaded the bases with two down for CF Glynn Davis. Davis would pop a fly ball falling fair down the right field line. Two runs scored on the double and it was a 5-3 game. 2B Garabez Rosa would ground out to end the inning.
In the eighth, Bowie was right there again. LF Mike Yastrzemski singled a run home to make it 5-4 and on the play SS Ozzie Martinez reached third base. After a wild pitch allowed Yastrzemski second base the table was set. Reliever Colin Balester would bear down, as he struck out Davis and then got Rosa to bounce out to shortstop to foil the threat.
The Baysox starter Elih Villanueva (4-3) allowed five runs, four of which earned in five innings. RHP Kenn Kasparek returned to Altoona, where he pitched for the Curve last year. Kasparek delivered two scoreless innings getting out of a jam in the seventh inning. RHP Gene Escat allowed a run on a triple to right-center in the eighth from Curve SS Gift Ngoepe.
Bowie had three-hit nights from Yastrzemski, Davis and Sharlon Schoop who played at first base for the first time since 2012 in the game. With the loss, the Baysox are two games in back of Altoona in the Eastern League’s West and 1-4 on the current six-game road trip.
