Chesapeake Bay Trust celebrates 30 years at annual Treasure the Chesapeake celebration

ttc_17th_annual-logo-web[1]On Friday, May 29, the Chesapeake Bay Trust will celebrate 30 years at its Annual Treasure the Chesapeake Celebration at the Marriott Annapolis Waterfront hotel. Last year’s event sold out with over 500 guests in attendance who raised more than $100,000 to help the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Event organizers expect this year’s gala to include more than 150 companies and organizations participating as sponsors, in-kind partners and silent auction donors.

“We are so excited to celebrate our 30th year at this event, the thousands of grants we’ve made, the tens of millions of dollars we’ve distributed to the region’s not-for-profit entities, and the hundreds of thousands of Marylanders who are environmental stewards. The Chesapeake Bay Trust’s Treasure the Chesapeake Celebration is our largest fundraiser of the year, and is a wonderful way to celebrate this birthday milestone,” said Jana Davis, executive director of the Chesapeake Bay Trust. “We are so thankful to all the sponsors, partners and attendees who have donated their time and resources to make this an exceptional evening to benefit the Bay and most treasured natural resources.”

The 17th Annual Treasure the Chesapeake Celebration will include a handcrafted menu and open bar, a deejay and dancing, casino games, fresh shucked oysters, and a silent auction with more than 40 packages available. Major supporters include Constellation Energy and Exelon Generation as “Blue Heron” sponsors of the event, with M&T Bank, Venable and the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim sponsoring at the “Oyster” level. Sponsorships range from $250 to $10,000 with a host of benefits provided. All money raised benefits the Chesapeake Bay Trust, a nonprofit, grantmaking organization that awards $9 million per year to advance Bay restoration, environmental education, and community outreach throughout Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay region.

Tickets to the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s Treasure the Chesapeake Celebration sold out in 2014 and a few are still available for this year’s gala. To find out more and purchase tickets or sponsorships online, visit www.cbtrust.org/treasurethechesapeake.

Since 1985, the Chesapeake Bay Trust has awarded more than $70 million in grants and engaged hundreds of thousands of individuals in projects that have a measurable impact on the Chesapeake Bay, its tributaries, and other watersheds of Maryland. In addition to funds from events like Treasure the Chesapeake, the Trust is also funded through sales of Maryland’s “Treasure the Chesapeake” license plates, donations to the Bay Fund on the Maryland State income tax form, donations from individuals and corporations, and partnerships with private foundations and federal, state, and local agencies. Fully 90 cents of every dollar the Trust receives is directed to projects and programs that benefit the Bay and local communities. To find out more, visit www.cbtrust.org.
