Baysox sweep Rubber Ducks

BaysoxThe Baysox beat Akron 4-2 Thursday afternoon to complete a four-game home sweep of the RubberDucks. The Baysox are currently on a season-high six game winning streak and went 6-1 during the homestand that concluded this afternoon.

The Baysox again struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Akron starter Shawn Morimando with a two-out rally. Garabez Rosa singled to right field with two outs and Sean Halton brought him home with a double to left field the give Bowie a 1-0 lead. 

Akron tied the game in the top of the third inning against Baysox starter Elih Villanueva. Justin Toole hit a lead-off infield single to second base and Todd Hankins was hit-by-a-pitch with one out. Destin Hood then brought Toole home with a single to center field to tie the game 1-1. 

The RubberDucks took their first lead of the series in the top of the fourth inning. Yandy Diaz hit a lead-off double to left field, moved to third base and scored on a wild pitch to give Akron the 2-1 lead.

Quincy Latimore tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the 5th inning with a solo home run to left field.

Bowie took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Glynn Davis hit a lead-off double to left field and moved to third base on a Derrik Gibson sacrifice bunt. Rosa brought home Davis with a sacrifice fly to left field to give the Baysox a 3-2 lead.

The Baysox added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Akron reliever Grant Sides. Brandon Snyder hit a lead-off double to left field, moved to third base on a Jason Esposito single and scored on a Latimore sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 4-2.

Villanueva pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five in the win. Reliever Gene Escat pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and walking two in his second save of the season. 

Mormando took the loss, throwing six innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out two. 

RHP Parker Bridwell (1-0, 5.32) takes the mound for the Baysox Thursday as the team plays the first game in a three-game road trip to Richmond. He will be opposed by RHP Joe Biagini (0-2, 2.45). The Baysox return home Thursday, May 14 for a four game homestand against the Richmond Flying Squirrels
