2015 USNA Graduation and Commissioning

USNA Graduation 2011 (168)On May 22 United States Naval Academy graduated 1070 midshipmen under a refreshingly cool Friday to kick off the Memorial Day weekend. 790 were commissioned as Navy Ensigns and 264 as Marine Corps 2nd Lieutenants. There were 11 foreign national students graduating from Bangladesh, Jordan, Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Maldives,Mexico, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Tunisia .

The top graduate is Michael Kamis Johnson, from Colleysville, TX who was a electrical engineering major. He will be commissioned as a Navy ensign and train as a submariner.

Eric Aanders Swanson of Shoreview, MN was the class salutatorian. He was an electrical engineering major. He will be commissioned as a Navy ensign and train as a submariner.

USNAGraduation018_This is the 165th traditional graduation ceremony. Since 1845, approximately 82,500 midshipmen have graduated from the Naval Academy. Since 1980, more than 4700 women including the class of 2015 have graduated from the United States Naval Academy.

Vice President, Joe Biden addressed the graduates this morning at about 1020am. The Vice President was joined on the rostrum by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, VADM. Walter E. “Ted” Carter, Superintendent of the Naval Academy, and Capt. Bill Byrne Commandant of midshipmen, Admiral Jonathan Greenert, Chief of Naval Operations among other military and political officials.
