Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra to celebrate 5th anniversary on May 2nd

peacherinePeacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra is returning to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 461 College Parkway, Arnold, for one performance only on Saturday, May 2, 2015, featuring the Sons of the Severn Barbershop Chorus and Adam Swanson, ragtime pianist to celebrate their fifth birthday. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and are on sale now.

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra (PRSO), recognized by the Washington Post as “the premier American ragtime ensemble” recreates the syncopated stylings of a bygone era – performing ragtime, theater, and dance music from the years between 1880 and 1930, and accompanies classic silent films using the original orchestral scores and historic instruments. Formed by young virtuoso Andrew Greene, the PRSO has performed at leading venues including The Kennedy Center, The Library of Congress, historic theaters, performing arts centers, colleges, universities, and concert associations across the United States. The orchestra is primarily composed of young musicians, age 30 and below.

“It’s a huge thrill to bring alive American popular music as Americans heard it at the turn of the last century,” PRSO founder and director Andrew Greene said. “This concert is special in many ways, as we had our public debut on May 2nd in 2010 at the exact same venue, and we’re proud to return to celebrate five years of performing America’s rich musical history.”

The event will also include special guests: The Sons of the Severn Barbershop Chorus, an award-winning men’s choral ensemble based in Annapolis, and Adam Swanson, the youngest three-time champion of the Old Time Piano Playing Contest, now a student at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, will join the orchestra performing works by George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, George M. Cohan, Joe Jordan, John Philip Sousa, Scott Joplin and others as originally performed during the first two decades of the twentieth century.

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra celebrates the birth of American popular music through its toe-tapping musical programs. Join PRSO and their guests for an electrifying performance that will once again reveal by Peacherine has brought audiences to their feet with an incomparable sense of Americana, spirit, and joy.
