The King William Players, St. John’s College’s student theater troupe, will perform a production of the play “Arcadia” at St. John’s College. The production is directed by St. John’s senior Carlos Henninger. The performances, which are free and open to the public, will be held in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium on April 24 and 25 at 8 p.m.
Written in 1993 by Tom Stoppard, who is regarded as one of the most significant contemporary playwrights in the English language, “Arcadia” is praised by critics as a witty masterpiece that engages the mind and emotions. Set in Sidley Park, an English country house in Derbyshire, “Arcadia” takes place in both the present day and the early 19th century. Exploring the relationship between past and present, order and disorder, and certainty and uncertainty, “Arcadia” tells the story of two modern scholars and the house’s current residents whose activities are juxtaposed with those of the people who lived there in the earlier period.
