BREAKING: Anne Arundel County Police shoot suspect in Crofton

police shootingUPDATE:

Just after 1 PM Anne Arundel County Police received a phone call from a family member about the well-being of a man residing at 1701 Chamberlain Court in Crofton Maryland. Four officers responded and attempted to make contact with the people in the house and were unsuccessful. They made a forced entry into the house fearing that the person had harmed himself and were faced with the suspect at the top of the stairs pointing a long gun (rifle/shotgun) at the officers.

At that time a veteran police officer feared for his life and fired a shot (or shots) into the suspects abdominal area.  Immediate aid was given and the suspect was taken to shock-trauma in Baltimore and is currently listed in critical condition. The suspect did not fire any shots at police.

There was a female occupant of the house that is also believed to be a relative of the suspect. However the relationship is unknown.

Police did say that they had had several calls to that residence in the past; however the dates, nature, and resolution of those calls was unknown at time of publishing.

Police are still investigating the scene and will be for several more hours. No charges have been filed and the police will consult with the States Attorney to see if any charges are warranted once it is known if the suspect will survive his injuries. Potential charges might include assault for pointing a gun at an officer. The names of the suspect and the officers will not be released until tomorrow at least.
