A Cappella Showcase returns to Maryland Hall

Maryland Hall

Maryland HallThe A Cappella Showcase is back for another year! Experience the triumph and spirit of the world’s most famous instrument – the voice! Enjoy an evening of music by the region’s best contemporary a cappella groups on Saturday, May 2 at 7 pm. Tickets are $23; $15 for Maryland Hall members and students.

Although this musical genre has been around in various forms for over a century, contemporary a cappella is surging in popularity throughout the world thanks to unprecedented success of the movie Pitch Perfect and the TV show The Sing-Off. Don’t miss your chance to see an extraordinary night of music created using only the human voice.

Performers will include Vox Pop and The Capital Hearings from Washington, DC, Uncommon from Richmond, VA and Nothing But Treble from St. Mary’s High School right here in Annapolis!

Vox Pop is a professional vocal band with each member bringing their own unique sound and style to enhance your listening enjoyment. For 12 years and counting, Vox Pop’s mission is to entertain audiences with soulful melodies, tight harmonies, and a beat that can’t be denied.

The Capital Hearings are committed to crossing musical boundaries and sharing every genre of a cappella for their audiences, including classical favorites, jazz standards, contemporary pop and rock arrangements.

As its name suggests, Uncommon isn’t just another contemporary a cappella group. This eclectic semi-professional sextet draws inspiration from the area’s legendary indie music scene to create a vocal sound all its own.

Nothing but Treble, an all-female group from St. Mary’s High School, have performed at a variety of events around Annapolis, including an annual tradition of Christmas caroling each December during Downtown Annapolis’ Midnight Madness celebration.

New this year! If you are interested in learning more about a cappella then Maryland Hall has the perfect opportunity for you. They will host acappellaEd, a contemporary a cappella workshop on Saturday, May 2 from 9 am to 5:30 pm. Students will attend courses and master classes throughout the day at Maryland Hall taught by internationally-renowned clinicians and acclaimed music educators.
