Suspected drunk driver crashes into 2 cars at DUI checkpoint

Tonight at approximately 8:30 officers working a DUI Saturation patrol attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Bestgate Rd and Rt 50 in Annapolis. 

The driver’s actions appeared to be consistent with someone who was operating the vehicle under the influence. The driver failed to stop for the patrol officers. Officers followed the vehicle along Rt 50 east, Rt 2 in Arnold, back down Route 50 west and along Rowe Blvd before he crashed into two occupied vehicles. The operators of those vehicles sustained minor injuries, but were taken to the hospital for evaluations. 

The suspect was taken into custody. He is an adult male. He did not sustain any serious injuries. His vehicle burst into flames at the scene of the crash which occurred near the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on Rowe Blvd near Melville Rd. 

Additional officers were deployed into the area for a St. Patrick’s Day saturation patrol for DUI’s.

Saturation patrols will remain out this evening and police are asking all citizens remain vigilant and report any possible DUI suspects.
