Pantelides praises City employees, cites partnerships with Hogan and Schuh in State of City speech

Annapolis Mayor, Michael J. Pantelides

Annapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides presented his second State of the City address to the Annapolis City Council last night. The Mayor spent much of the address thanking the various City departments for their work throughout the year and cited some positive outcomes from their work. The crime rate as reported by the police is down, the City is working with the County on a heroin task force, more permits have been issued, and the rating of our EMS services exceed national norms.

The Mayor says he will be presenting a balanced budget to the City Council which will be essentially a flat budget with a negligible increase in spending. Priorities remain the same–public safety, environment, and infrastructure improvements. The budget this year may be difficult to reconcile as the City has shifted away from a line-item model to a departmental/project model that will give a better, more broad picture of where tax dollars are spent.  Over the next 3 months, the City Council will be combing over the budget and making adjustments before the July 1 deadline when a balanced budget must be adopted.
