Casting call for Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre

ASGTAnnapolis Summer Garden Theatre (ASGT) will hold open auditions in March for its 50th performance season, which features the interactive musical murder mystery The Mystery of Edwin Drood (May 28-June 20), the jazzy criminal caper Catch Me If You Can (July 2-25), and a creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky musical TBA (August 6-September 6).

The all-volunteer, outdoor theatre encourages performers of all shapes, sizes, ethnicity, and experience levels to try out. Auditions are open to ages 18+, but ASGT casts “age appropriate” actors when possible, so age restrictions may be waived for certain roles. No roles are pre-cast. All roles are unpaid.

Visit www.summergarden.com for the full casting calls, audition requirements, and audition locations as they become available. Direct any questions about auditions to [email protected]. Connect with ASGT on Facebook or Twitter (@ASGTAnnapolis) for the latest news and information.

Auditions for The Mystery of Edwin Drood are scheduled for Thursday, March 12 at 7pm and Saturday, March 14 at 11:30am, with callbacks on Tuesday, March 17 at 7pm. The show is directed by Andy Scott, with music direction by Ken Kimble and choreography by Elysia Greene-Merrill.

Prepare 16-32 bars from the show or a musical of similar style, and be prepared to read from the script. You’ll have the opportunity to show off any unique skills, like juggling, gymnastics, impersonations, etc. so be prepared. Please note that everyone cast in the production speaks in different British dialects and plays two characters: a member of the Music Hall Royale theatre troupe, and the role the troupe member plays in the Music Hall’s production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Also, this is an interactive show—all characters interact with the audience before and during the performance.

Auditions for Catch Me If You Can will be held on Thursday, March 19 at 7pm and Saturday, March 21 at 11:30am, with callbacks on Tuesday, March 24 at 7pm. The show is directed by Mark Briner, with musical direction by Julie Ann Hawk and choreography by Becca Vourvoulas.

Prepare 16-32 bars (no more) of a song from the show or in the style of the show to best show off your range. You’re strongly encouraged to visit www.summergarden.com for character breakdowns and vocal requirements. Candidates for each character will be asked to sing a section of the song listed, so the director highly recommends you familiarize yourself with these songs beforehand. They can be researched on YouTube or iTunes. Preparation counts.

Auditions for a creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky musical TBA are scheduled for Thursday, March 26 at 7pm and Saturday, March 28 at 11:30am, with callbacks on Tuesday, March 31 at 7pm. The show is directed by Debbie Barber-Eaton, with assistant direction by Jason Vellon, musical direction by David Merrill and choreography by Jamie Miller.

Prepare two contrasting vocal pieces, 16-32 bars in length, which show vocal range. No a cappella singing or recorded accompaniment will be permitted. Come prepared to learn a short dance combination with clothes/shoes you can comfortably and safely move in. Bring a written list of all remotely possible conflicts that you have or may have between May 23 and September 6, 2015.
