AAMC opens FastCare clinic inside Shoppers Food and Pharmacy

default_shoppersAnne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC)  announced the opening of a new FastCare walk-in clinic inside the Shoppers Food and Pharmacy in Annapolis, Md. The new clinic is located at 2371 Solomon’s Island Road in Annapolis.

Anne Arundel Medical Center plans to open additional retail-based clinics in area grocery stores over the next 18 months. The first AAMC site opened in the Giant Food in Bowie in June 2014.

Started in 2006 and with locations in eight other states, the FastCare brand of convenient care clinics provides basic care for health conditions ranging from allergies to upper respiratory infections. The AAMC site in Annapolis is the second Maryland location for FastCare.

“The benefits to patients of a retail clinic are many, including expanded hours, walk-in availability and lower cost,” said Tori Bayless, president and CEO of Anne Arundel Medical Center. “The key difference between FastCare and other retail clinics is the close association with a major health system. With FastCare, patients benefit from connectivity, including access to MyChart, AAMC’s electronic medical record.”

Staffed by nurse practitioners, a visit costs $79 including basic lab tests and can be billed to the patient’s health insurance. The nurse practitioners from FastCare send each patient’s primary care physician a report following any visit. The medical director for FastCare is Douglas Holman, MD, a member of AAMC’s medical staff and urgent care physician with Anne Arundel Medical Group.

“This FastCare clinic enables our customers to take care of their families by providing them with convenient access to quick, affordable health assistance, in-store, along with prescriptions and groceries,” said Matthew Shimoda, pharmacy district manager at Shoppers. “We are pleased to be able to offer this convenient health resource to our customers and our local community.”

The Annapolis location of Anne Arundel Medical Center FastCare opened today, February 23. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 8:30pm, Saturday 8:30am to 5:30pm, Sunday 9:30am to 4:30pm, and holidays 10am to 2pm.
