On Sunday, February 15, 2015, from 1 to 4pm, the Friends of The Light House will host the 10th Annual GumboFest at the DoubleTree Hotel in Annapolis. GumboFest is a charity gumbo cook-off featuring local chefs, restaurants and caterers from Annapolis and the surrounding area. A new category for non-professionals has been added this year.
“We’re excited to announce a new non-professional category for at-home cooks or groups of friends who would like to enter their gumbo this year,” Julie St. Marie, of Julie St. Marie Catering and the Chair of GumboFest said. “We’re hoping that a dinner club, a church group, or a few co-workers will get together and enter their gumbo as a team to benefit The Light House,” St. Marie added.
Trophies will be presented in the Judges Choice and People’s Choice categories of BEST GUMBO. An award for BEST BOOTH DISPLAY will also be presented.
Chesapeake Yacht Club Executive Chef, Andrew (Drew) Davidson said, “I have been fortunate to work with some very talented Chefs through the years. Their training along with the influence of many of our members and co-workers (as well as some serious R&D) have influenced my Gumbo style.” Chef Davidson was one of the Judge’s Choice winners from 2014. When asked about entering the contest again this year, he said, “GumboFest is a lot of fun! The spirit of competition is exciting.”
The Master of Ceremonies for the event will be WBAL reporter Anne Kramer and entertainment will be provided by local band, THE STRAGGLERS.
