7 County schools establish SADD chapters

SADD_ColorThe Anne Arundel County Department of Health recently announced that seven County schools have started Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Chapters during the 2014-2015 school year. New chapters are at Arundel High, Mary Moss Academy, Meade High, Meade Middle, Northeast High, St. Mary’s High and South River High. The following schools have continuing chapters: Archbishop Spalding, Broadneck High, Chesapeake High, Key School, and Severna Park High.

Schools planning to start SADD Chapters in 2015 include: Annapolis High, Bates Middle, Brooklyn Park Middle, George Fox Middle, Indian Creek Upper School, Lindale Middle, Marley Middle, North County High, Old Mill High and Phoenix Academy.

Through support from the Department of Health, Pathways Treatment Center, The Impact Society, and public and private schools, youth in SADD chapters promote a lifestyle that is alcohol and drug free in their schools and communities. Functioning as a school club, SADD allows students to teach their peers to make healthy decisions. SADD members implement prevention strategies, such as displaying posters with alcohol and drug free messages, signing drug-free pledges, announcing pro-health messages, inviting health experts to speak at their schools, and participating in the annual drug awareness campaign National Red Ribbon Week.
