Winter Soup & Science Lecture Series at Jug Bay

jugbayEnjoy a variety of hearty home-made soups and fresh bread with fellow nature lovers. Then sit back with a cup of coffee, tea, and dessert and enjoy listening to a guest speaker at the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary  on Sundays from noon – 3 pm.

Friends of Jug Bay members and Jug Bay volunteers prepare the soups, breads and desserts served at Soup & Science events.  Do you have a yummy recipe for home-made soup or a dessert that you would like to share with others? If so, we would welcome your contribution of a pot to the program.   If you plan to bring soup, please remember to bring your own crock pot and ladle.  Thanks so much!!

Ten Years of Patuxent Riverkeeping: Lessons learned and anecdotes from the front lines of fighting pollution and about community building on the Patuxent during the first decade of Patuxent Riverkeeping. Also, reflections on the past present and future of community based conservation work on the Patuxent.

Margaret A. Barker

Margaret Barker-Frankel, lead author on Audobon’s Birdhouse Book, will discuss the history and importance of bird houses to successful bird conservation efforts. With the help of a local woodworker, Margaret will show and describe how the blue bird house design of Lawrence Zeleny led to the resurgence of the bluebird population in Maryland and elsewhere. On display will be one of the latest bluebird house designs— the Xbox.

March 8th

Jonathan Mawdsley, Fish and Wildlife Science Coordinator, Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. will discuss conservation initiatives ranging from wildlife monitoring to species inventories, from state wildlife planning to invasive species for effective fish and wildlife conservation.
