Watermark®’s Group Sales Manager Jennifer DeLancey was awarded “New Professional of the Year” by the Maryland Tourism Coalition (formerly Maryland Tourism Council) at the Maryland Tourism & Travel Summit Awards Banquet held at the Ocean City Convention Center on Thursday, November 14. Honored in front of 200 of her peers, Jennifer DeLancey was recognized for her dedication to the group tour industry, her role in bringing group tourism in the state of Maryland and for working effectively with her colleagues in the region and beyond. In less than three years in her role at Watermark, DeLancey has made her mark in the industry. Her responsibilities include booking and coordinating group tour business, establishing and maintaining industry relationships, planning and developing Special Event tours and more.

Speaking on her award, DeLancey says, “I was very surprised and humbled to receive this award.  It is very rewarding to be recognized by my peers in the Tourism Industry.  I look at this as an award for myself and for all of Watermark.  This was made possible because of the support and cooperation of the entire Watermark Staff and the many mentors I have in this Industry.  A special thank you to Rich Gilbert of the Maryland Department of Tourism for the valuable lessons he has taught me about the Tourism Industry and the Group Tour Market.  I also wish to thank the Maryland Tourism Coalition for honoring me with this award.”

This award is given to a newcomer to Maryland tourism and active participant in industry-related activities whose spirit and commitment exemplify the ideal of the tourism profession. Director of Sales and Marketing at Watermark, April O’Brien says, “Jennifer’s positive enthusiasm has been a real plus to Watermark’s sales team.  Jennifer’s previous experience in event planning and sales helped make the transition to tourism easier but it’s her willingness to learn new things and get right in the middle of the action that is so effective.  She has fun in her job, in learning new things and working with others to effectively sell and manage Watermark’s various products. The entire Watermark sales team is proud of her accomplishments and this recognition from her peers.”

DeLancey’s enthusiasm and outreach have made her stand out in the Maryland tourism community. Rich Gilbert, Travel Trade Sales Manager for the Maryland Office of Tourism says, “I felt Jennifer was very deserving of the nomination for her enthusiasm and her willingness to teach her newfound skills to others. For someone to start a career much later in life than most, Jennifer came out of the gate running at full steam.  She is quick to volunteer, ask questions and do all she can to succeed. Jennifer makes extraordinary contributions daily in her role with Watermark and with the group tour communities in both Baltimore and Annapolis. Today’s travel industry business environment calls on mentors and leaders capable of working in concert with others, able to collaborate in creative endeavors, innovate and inspire and contribute without dominating any undertaking. Jennifer willingly shares her gifts, talents, keen-eye and expertise with others.”
