The 2014 Military Bowl rolled into Annapolis this morning and began with a 5K Run, followed by a parade led by the famed Budweiser Clydesdales and several Medal of Honor recipients, followed by an amazing tailgate, followed by a thorough whomping of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats by the Hokies of Virginia Tech. A capacity crowd saw the Hokies defeat the Bearcats 33-17.
This was the Hokies 22nd consecutive winning season under head coach Frank Beamer who coached from the press level of the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium as he recovered from throat surgery.
The game got off to a slow start and the half fond the Hokies ahead by 3 points and after a 20 minute halftime show, they came out loaded for Bearcats. The Cincinnati QB, Gunner Kiel was injured in the 3rd quarter and his absence almost assured a Hokie win. In one of the most spectacular plays in any game, VT sacked Keil knocking the ball loose and recovering it. VT looked like they were going to run it for a touchdown and fumbled the ball on the 12 only to be recovered by VT and ultimately run into the end zone for a touchdown.
