Navy defeats Army 17-10 in 115th match up (PHOTOS)

The Black Knights were ready to stop the streak. And for a while, it looked like they might just do that when they scored in the opening minutes of the 115th Army-Navy Game at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.  That touchdown came from a blocked Navy punt and a quick recovery and run in for a touchdown. For most of the first half, it seemed as if Army was all over Navy and it looked as if Army was to take the lead with them into halftime. But Navy pulled out last second touchdown to tie the score at the half.

As Navy has done in the past when they have been down–they came out of the first half looking like a different team. Not only did their uniforms look good (the talk of the game) but the team did as well.  A field goal took them ahead in the 3rd quarter and a touchdown in the 4th extended their lead to 10 points. But Army fought back and in the final minutes of the game kicked for 3 points. The Black Knights attempted an onside kick in the final seconds of the game and failed to recover it. Navy recovered, and ran down the clock sealing their 13th consecutive victory over Army at the 115th Army-Navy Game.  Final score: 17-10.

While Keenan Reynolds did not break any records (just extended the ones he already has), Navy Coach Ken Niumatalolo set a pair of his own.  With this win, Niumatalolo is the only Navy coach to start 7-0 against Army. He surpassed his successor and mentor, Paul Johnson. Additionally, Niumatalolo became Navy’s winningest coach in history. As of now, there are only 12 active coaches that are the winningest coach at their school.

  • Central Florida- George O’Leary
  • Kansas State- Bill Snyder
  • Missouri- Gary Pinkel
  • Navy-Ken Niumatalolo
  • Northwestern- Pat Fitzgerald
  • Oklahoma- Bob Stoops
  • Oklahoma State- Mike Gundy
  • Old Dominion- Bobby Wilder
  • South Alabama- Joey Jones
  • South Carolina- Steve Spurrier
  • TCU- Gary Patterson
  • Virginia Tech- Frank Beamer
