Double fatal accident in Davidsonville

fatal-accidentUPDATE: From The Capital, the two drivers have been identified and police believe that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Nicholas Anthony Cassidy, 22, of Wayson Way in Davidsonville, was driving the Audi. Marie Elaine Higgs, 60 of Edgewater, was driving the Toyota, Justin Mulcahy, a police spokesman said.

Police believe that alcohol use on the part of Cassidy to be a contributing factor as well, Mulcahy said.

On 12/15/2014 at approximately 8:42pm Traffic Safety officers were called to a report of a head-on crash between two vehicles at 475 Central Ave West near Beards Point Rd in Davidsonville. Preliminary investigation revealed a black Audi TT was driving westbound on Central Ave when it crossed the centerline and struck a silver Toyota Yaris head-on.

The 60 year old driver of the Yaris was declared dead at the scene by fire department paramedics and to Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy. The 22 year old driver of the Audi was taken by Anne Arundel County paramedics to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis with critical injuries where he was later pronounced dead.

The primary cause of the crash appears to be the Audi’s failure to remain right of center and alcohol use appears to have contributed as well. Traffic Safety is handling the investigation.
