What could be better than hearing the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra play some of the spookiest pieces of classical music less than a week before Halloween?

Hearing the music, then taking home a prize in the LSO’s second annual costume contest!

Gianna Sala (funniest/most original), Ashley Rogers (scariest) and Jamison Cook (cutest) did just that at the LSO’s ‘Spooky Sounds, Haunted Harmonies’ concert on October 25th, each one winning a $25 gift card to Toys-R-Us and bragging rights until next year.

The concert began with a unique performance of the national anthem, conducted by Sophia Leschishin, 3 1/2-year-old daughter of LSO Music Director Anna Binneweg. The orchestra then commenced with some of the creepiest tunes of Bach, Berlioz, Dukas, Saint-Saens, Wagner and other great composers.

The costume contest was held at the intermission. More than 230 audience members enjoyed the concert altogether, with several South River High School students joining the orchestra for some performances as well.

The LSO’s next concert will be ‘Movie Music Live,’ to be held Saturday, January 10 at 7:30 pm at Annapolis High School. The orchestra will play some of the most beloved pieces of film music from classics such as Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and more.
