Cats debuts at Compass Rose Theatre this weekend

catsCompass Rose Theater is proud to announce its production of Cats the musical, opening November 14, 2014.  With a text by T.S. Eliot and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, this play is one of the iconic Broadway favorites, including the song “Memory” which became a popular hit after the show opened on Broadway in 1982.   Cats is the second longest running musical in Broadway history. The song Memory echoes in our hearts and minds and lends a poetic gravity to the fantastical conceit of cats gathered under the Jellicle moon to select one cat to be reborn.

With its intimate stage and powerful acoustics, Compass Rose Theater offers a perfect venue for the show. Our cats will climb, jump and dance their way into your hearts.   Three local professionals join six New York based actors who are being housed in Annapolis to form an accomplished and talented cast of nine who play multiple parts.

Lucinda Merry-Browne, Founding Artistic Director, and member of Actors’ Equity, directs. The entire cast holds degrees in theater and/or dance. Allison Rose Munn, a graduate of NYU, will appear as Grizabella. The role of Jennyannydots will be played by Anne Schroeder, who has performed in various productions in Off-Off Broadway. Ishma’el Edwards, appearing as Munkustrap and Mungojerrie, is living in New York City and has performed on Broadway and cruise lines. Rum Tum Tugger and Skimbleshanks will be played by Terrence Bennett, a Washington DC based performer with a BA in Theater from Marymount Manhattan College. Megan Schwartz holds a dance degree from Point Park University and will make her debut at Compass Rose Theater as Victoria and Rumpleteazer. A dance teacher from New York with extensive performing experience, Jessica McKay will appear as Mr. Mistoffleles and Jellyorum. Cassie Bednall has danced with the metro Milwaukee Ballet and will play the part of Demeter. Mallory Holson who played the part of Louisa in The Sound of Music at Compass Rose Theater will play Cassandra. Old Deuteronomy will be played by Michael J. Begley, who has previous experience with the Annapolis Opera.

Admission is $35 for adults, $30 for seniors and military (with a valid ID), and $20 for students (with a valid ID). Runs Thursdays-Sundays Nov. 14- Dec. 21.
