CBMM_Booksigning_ParksDon_2014From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, November 8-9, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s store will host local author and museum volunteer Don Parks to sign his four books, Chesapeake Splendor, Chesapeake Winds and Tides, Chesapeake People and his most recent release, Chesapeake Men, Their Stories, Their Memories.

Chesapeake Men, Their Stories, Their Memories shares an in-depth look at the traditions, beliefs and values shaping Maryland’s Eastern Shore through eleven stories of men who have relied on the Chesapeake’s oyster, crab and clam industries for their livelihoods.

“I wanted these stories to bring a sense of place to the reader,” said Parks. “From harrowing escapes from Hurricane Agnes to the everyday experiences of living along the Eastern Shore, the book offers a rare view into the lives of these shoremen.”

The son of a Chesapeake waterman, Parks is a lifelong resident of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. A retired educator, he was a public and private school administrator for more than three decades. Since retirement, he spends a great deal of his time exploring the Chesapeake, including serving as a CBMM volunteer for more than a decade.

Chesapeake Men, Their Stories, Their Memories retails for $24.99 and is available in advance at the museum store. All book sales benefit the people served by CBMM’s educational, exhibition and boat restoration programs. For more information, call 410-745-4962 or visit www.cbmm.org.
