UPDATE 6:00am 10/8/2014:  We just heard from Lt. Russ Davies, spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, that while the cause of the fire is still under investigation; they feel it was most likely due to a lightning strike from the storms that came through the area last night. The loss is estimated at $1.5 million dollars. As of 7/1/2104, the 10,500 sf waterfront home on 8.5 acres was assessed at $3.9 million and officials believe the structure to be a total loss.

Fire crews from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department are on the scene of a 2 alarm fire on Sharps Point Road in the Whitehall section of Annapolis.  The initial call came in shortly before midnight and arriving crews were met with heavy fire from the roof.

The home is large, in excess of 10,000 sf and due to the size, a 2nd alarm was immediately dispatched. Fire boats and tankers are operating at the scene and mutual aid has been requested from Annapolis City, the US Naval Academy and Queen Anne’s County.

Reports from the scene advise that all residents were able to safely evacuate the residence.
