The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers defeated the US Naval Academy Midshipmen on Saturday, 36-27.

WKU jumped out to a 3-0 lead on their first drive, but Navy would quickly answer and retain the lead until the 4th quarter when Navy seemed to fall apart.

While Navy’s ground game was strong, Western Kentucky was able to accommodate. But, when Navy put the ball in the air, it usually resulted in a sack or an interception. WKU took the lead again in the 4th quarter when Navy missed a field goal and WKU successfully executed one. After that, WKU scored a touchdown to which Navy answered almost immediately with a Keen an Reynolds touchdown. Navy attempted a two point conversion that failed leaving the Mids trailing 29-27 with 4:30 left in the game.

Shortly before the half, Ryan Williams-Jenkins, a senior from Helena, AL returned a kickoff for 18 yards and was hit hard and was down on the field for about 20 minutes. Williams-Jenkins was taken from the field on a cart and sent to a hospital by ambulance. Reports were that he suffered a neck injury.

The final score was 36-27.
