Quiet Waters Park to present a solo show by Raleigh Schein

Raleigh ScheinThe Friends of Quiet Waters Park will present a solo art exhibition, Connections in Light and Shadow by Maryland painter, Raleigh Schein. She will debut this significant, new body of work at an Opening Reception on October 26th, from 2 to 4 PM, in the Galleries at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis, Maryland. The show runs from October 22nd through November 23rd, 2014.

The Friends of Quiet Waters Park’s primary strategic goal is to ensure the Park is a quality destination for art and nature. In line with these goals, they invited Raleigh to present her art in a One Woman Show in both their Willow and Garden Galleries. Raleigh has created more than 40 new paintings for the exhibition. She will also show over 80 prints, watercolors, and drawings.

The show is titled Connections in Light and Shadow to denote the painting’s connection one to another in similarity of images and mood, often in pairs. Each painting captures a moment in time with quiet focus, unanswered questions, and an invitation to the viewer to linger in the environment created by light and shadow.

Raleigh spent many years of her art career involved in the creation and production of commercial art across a wide range of medium: from calligraphy to illustration; print to broadcast; and billboards to interior displays. After many years in art studios and advertising agencies, she joined the Washington Post newspaper to direct the Advertising Art department’s operation. As it’s creative and business director, she built it’s statue to award winning recognition. Within The Washington Post Company, she went on to be one of the founders of washingtonpost.com, originally known as Digital Ink, as Director of Operations.

Throughout those successful, creative and ground breaking professional endeavors, Raleigh continued to pursue her personal creative vision, including adding to her accomplishments a Masters of Fine Art degree in painting from The American University in Washington, DC and producing artwork for a number of private collections.

Raleigh continues her work, primarily in painting, as well as watercolors and drawings. Her images are focused on capturing a subject to describe it at that moment, so both she and the viewer can spend time being with that scene, that person, or that object to experience it more fully

Today, Raleigh incorporates the lessons of her fine art training with the disciplines of the commercial art world in her work. Her work is in over forty private and corporate collections.
