msa_festivalposterOctober is American Archives Month, and the Maryland State Archives will be celebrating by hosting a free Family History Festival on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 10:00am to 4:00pm in Annapolis.  This open house-style event will feature:

  • Expert lectures on genealogy, history, and archival research:
  • Demonstrations on caring for your own family papers and photos;
  • “Break through your brick wall” sessions for family genealogists;
  • Seminars on imaging techniques;
  • Behind the scenes tours;
  • Children’s activities highlighting family history.

Come and meet the staff and see how important their collections are to both family and community history!

The Maryland State Archives serves as the central depository for government records of permanent value. Its collections date from Maryland’s founding in 1634, and include a wealth of information pertaining to family history.  These include colonial and state executive, legislative, and judicial records; county probate, land, and court records; church records; business records; state publications and reports; and special collections of private papers, maps, photographs, and newspapers. These records are stored in specifically designed humidity and temperature controlled stacks and all necessary preservation measures are conducted in the Archives’ on-site conservation laboratory.

Please come out on Saturday, October 4 for this free family event!
