Man shot at Annapolis’ Pip Moyer Rec Center

Annapolis Police are searching for a gunman who shot another man at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center this evening.  Just before 6pm, we received a Tweet from a follower on Twitter.

About 630pm, Police confirmed that there was indeed a shooting at the facility and a victim had been sent to shock-trauma.

Nearly two hours later, a helicopter from Anne Arundel County was still searching for a suspect and there was a large police presence in the area.

Details surrounding the incident are still not available, but the Rec Center did send a tweet indicating that the cardio room was unavailable for the evening. From a witness on the scene, the shot was fired toward (not necessarily into) the rec center and the window of the cardio room was shattered.

The Capital Gazette had recently done a story on some basketball league rivalries that evolved into violence threatening to cancel the games. (link unavailable due to new website for Capital Gazette) However, at the end of July, two men were charged with disorderly conduct after a fight had broken out.

More details will be provided as they become available.
