Goshen Farm Harvest Dinner

goshenfarmIf you like to eat fresh food made from locally-grown ingredients and enjoy supporting the preservation of local history, make plans to attend the Goshen Farm Harvest Dinner, an evening of good food grown, prepared, and served by your neighbors, on Saturday, October 4, from 5 to 7 PM. Enjoy a hearty dinner of spaghetti with sauce made from the vegetables grown in the Goshen Farm Sharing Garden, and socialize with Society members who will share the history of the farm and the Society’s plans for its restoration. The dinner will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 461 College Parkway, Arnold, MD 21012. This is the Soceity’s third annual Harvest Dinner. Goshen Farm is located in the Broadneck area of Annapolis, just off of Cape St. Claire Road near the entrance to the Cape St. Claire community.

The Goshen Farm Preservation Society, Inc., supports the preservation and restoration of the historic Goshen Farm house and property and has made great strides since its formation in 2006. The farmhouse was constructed in the 1780s and sits among meadows and woods on 22 acres. Several original outbuildings remain standing in addition to the original structure. The Society has cleaned up and maintained the land, partially restored the exterior of the farmhouse and installed a new roof, and opened a Sharing Garden that allows members to “work the land” to grow their own fresh foods. Goshen Farm is also home to two Eagle Scout projects and one Girl Scout Gold Award project, with more to come.

Goshen Farm is a community treasure, and the Society has been working since 2007 to preserve the property for future generations. Terry Brandon, Chair of the Sharing Garden Committee, remarked, “Our gardening members have been tending their plots for almost three years now and it has been gratifying to see how a sense of community has developed among the gardeners. The Harvest Dinner demonstrates not only that our gardeners have green thumbs, but they are pretty good cooks as well! The soil at the farm is rich and fertile and produces wonderful and tasty veggies that the gardeners use to make most of the meal you’ll get at the Harvest Dinner. Local stores like Safeway, Trader Joe’s, and Outback Steakhouse also help out with generous donations of the things that can’t be grown. Bring the family and make an evening of it!”

Tickets for the Harvest Dinner are $10 per adult and $5 for kids 10 and under. Admission includes the spaghetti dinner, salad, bread, side dishes, desserts, and soft drinks/beverages. Advance ticket purchase is recommended but tickets will also be available at the door. Goshen Farm merchandise will also be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the preservation and restoration of the farm.
