Feed Annapolis run this weekend

feedThe Feed Annapolis 5-Miler and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk is a volunteer driven race where participants walk, run, and most importantly, pack meals to help families in Annapolis. The Feed Annapolis race has tripled in size from 2012 to 2013 and there are high hopes for the 2014 race. The goal is to have over 1000 people participating in the race on September 13th.

Some sobering facts about hunger right here in Anne Arundel County.

  • Did you know that Anne Arundel County has the highest per capita rate of government housing in the nation?
  • Or that 1 in 7 families in Anne Arundel County are food insecure?
  • Or that 50% of the students at Bates Middle School, 80% of the students at Germantown Elementary and 90% of the students at Tyler Heights Elementary are on government subsidized meals. Many of these kids rely on school meals as their primary source of food.
  • With so many students relying on government subsidized meals, what happens over the weekends and during their summer vacation? Sadly, they don’t eat. Which is why Feed Annapolis was created.
