Healthy hearts and heart-healthy diets are the focus of Cleo’s Fine Oils and Vinegars celebration of World Heart Day at the Annapolis Towne Centre.
“Cardiovascular disease is the world’s number one killer,” said Dr. Linda Cameron, owner of Cleo’s Fine Oils and Vinegars. “Medical studies are showing that high quality olive oil and the Mediterranean diet can be valuable tools when it comes to lowering your risk of heart disease. So, we wanted to offer our customers a chance to check out their heart health and learn more about the benefits of our premium extra virgin olive oils.”
Studies have shown that the monounsaturated fats found in olive oil help lower cholesterol, normalize blood clotting and benefit insulin and blood sugar control. The powerful antioxidants known as polyphenols found in extra virgin olive oil suppress inflammatory processes in the body that contribute to cardiovascular disease as well.
On World Heart Day, Monday, September 29, from 10 am to 2 pm, Cleo’s will offer free heart health screenings courtesy of Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Dare to C.A.R.E. The 15-minute exam is recommended for anyone 60 years and older or people over 50 who smoke or have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, a family history of vascular disease or other risk factors. No appointment is necessary.
As an incentive, Cleo’s is also offering 20 percent off extra virgin olive oils and antioxidant rich vinegars to anyone who completes the screening.
“Cardiovascular diseases can often be prevented by addressing risk factors,” Dr. Cameron said. “What you eat is important and we hope to open a dialog on healthy diet and lifestyle choices that could literally save your life.”
