Caregiver workshops scheduled

Senior PhotoThe Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is pleased to announce the 2014-2015 Caregiver Workshops: Oh, the Places You’ll Go! The workshops will be held at the Arnold Senior Activity Center and the Pascal Senior Activity Center beginning September 18, 2014 and continuing through June 18, 2015, 6:30-8:30 p.m. They are presented free to Anne Arundel County caregivers by the National Family Caregiver Support Program of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.

Topics and dates of the workshop series include:

  • “When Your Loved One Can No Longer Live Alone” presented by Marjorie Cotterman, RN, and Sharlene Liberto, Ombudsman Director for the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging & Disabilities. September 18 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
  • “Dementia Caregiving 101” presented by Jennifer FitzPatrick, MSW, LCWD-C. October 28, 2014 at the Arnold Senior Activity Center.
  • “Holiday 911” presented by Jennifer FitzPatrick, MSW, LCWD-C. October 28, 2014 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
  • “Mapping the Final Journey” presented by Lou Lukas, MD, Hospice & Palliative Medicine. January 15, 2015 at the Arnold Senior Activity Center.
  • “The Mechanics of Caregiving” presented by Ben Ogundip, Physical Therapist. February 19, 2015 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
  • “Behaviors as Communication? A Dementia Patient’s Attempt to Connect” presented by Jennifer FitzPatrick, MSW, LCWD-C. March 23, 2015 at the Arnold Senior Activity Center.
  • “Communicating with Health Care Professionals” presented by Ann Morrison, Ph.D., RN, CS. April 16, 2015 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
  • “Family Estrangements in Dementia Care” presented by Jennifer FitzPatrick, MSW, LCWD-C. May 21, 2015 at the Arnold Senior Activity Center.
  • “Mental Health Issues for Family Caregivers” presented by Kimberly Burton, Director of Older Adult Programs, Maryland Coalition on Mental Health and Aging. June 18, 2015 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.

The Pascal Senior Activity Center is located at 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie; the Arnold Senior Activity Center is located at 44 Church Road, Arnold.
