Annapolis Police Department hosts 1 mile challenge for Special Olympics

1milechallengeThe Annapolis City Police Department will host the 5th annual One Mile Challenge on Saturday, October 4, 2014 through the Annapolis Historic District. The One Mile Challenge will benefit Special Olympics Maryland (SOMD), which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports events for Maryland’s children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The One Mile Challenge is a fun, family-friendly event for all ages and skill levels, featuring a 1 mile race through Annapolis’ main street, an awards ceremony and post race party. Both participants and spectators will enjoy an energized and exciting race to walk, run, or cheer on fellow participants.

The Annapolis Police Department is proud to present the 5th annual One Mile Challenge through the historic streets of Annapolis,” said Annapolis Detective Police Officer Chuck Bealefeld.  “We are continuously inspired by Special Olympics Maryland athletes and are honored to help raise funds that will support their exciting sporting events throughout the year.”

The One Mile Challenge will start in a wave format, which will allow all levels of runners (and walkers) to participate. Registration is now open at http://www.annapolis1mile.com/. Registration is $25.00 for adults and $15.00 for registrants under 12 years of age. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes. Awards will be given in the following categories: Overall, Fastest Male, Fastest Female, Masters, Best Costume and more.
