Moonrise Festival goes off without a hitch, finally!

Moonrise festival this year at Pimlico Race Course more than made up for last year’s fiasco when the event was canceled with only a few week’s notice. But this year, Steez Promo and Glow DC more than came through for its fans with an insane lineup. Festival goers of all ages came to the race track for the one thing that brings us all together, the love of music, and friends. Children as young as eight years old showed up to this year’s festival to enjoy some of the largest names in the EDM community. With the success of this year’s festival, you can best believe it will be around next year with an even better lineup. The promotion team, vendors, security, staff, and volunteers who helped really made this festival a great success and very enjoyable for everybody.

The security staff and police presence at Moonrise was strong, they were in full force throughout both days keeping festival goers safe, and ensuring another Mad Decent Block Party incident didn’t happen. From what I heard there were no serious medical issues. Security was very thorough in searching of bags, shoes, and bodies of incoming festival goers. Even showing up early it still took a while for them to search everyone to ensure everyone’s safety. It was very clear what was and was not allowed into the festival. No backpacks, only single compartment drawstring bags, and empty camel-baks.

Staff was very friendly and wished everyone a safe and fun time. Police, medical staff, and Pimlico staff were consistently walking around ensuring everyone was being safe and did not require any medical attention. If promotion teams, and future festivals could take one thing from the Moonrise playbook it would be to have lots of volunteers walking around as “water boys.” Tons of volunteers were walking around with water bottles and offering people water if they needed by squirting into their mouth, these volunteers would be walking through the middle of the crowd, going up to the front gate of the stage and offering water to anyone who needed it. They were also going around with spray bottles to keep people cool from the scorching heat. Water was free at the water fill stations, and medical tents also had bottled of water if anyone needed one. Medical staff was also extremely helpful offering free sunscreen and any assistance needed.

Personally this was a very fun festival for myself as well as my friends. For a local festival with tons of huge headliners, and amazing sets, it will be one to remember and I will definitely be attending next year.

If you weren’t able to make it out this year, make sure you get your early bird tickets when they go on sale, and be ready to make some hard decisions on who you want to see, as there are just too many amazing sets, you won’t be able to make them all. Everyone I talked to said they had some difficult decisions on who they wanted to see at certain times throughout the day. With Bassnectar, and Carnage closing out Sunday night it was hard to choose where to go. Both sets were absolutely astonishing, and the atmosphere, stage lights, people, staff, and of course the music to close out the last day of the festival all under a super moon was perfect. I hope everyone had just as good of a time as my friends and I did.

See you next year Moonrise!
