Baysox 2013IMG_9950With the Baysox (65-63) trailing 3-2 in the eighth inning, the Reading (56-73) bullpen walked in a pair of Baysox runs and Chris Marrero followed with a grand slam to seal a come-from-behind 8-3 win. The grand slam was Marrero’s second in five games for the streaking Baysox who have won five-in-a-row.

During the team’s current winning streak, four of the games have been come-from-behind wins with two of the wins over Trenton walk-off home runs. Marrero has hit three home runs during the stretch and accounted for 12 RBI.

Reading jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning against Baysox starter Nick Additon. With two outs, Kelly Dugan singled to center field, moved to second base on a Jake Fox single to left field and scored on an Aaron Altherr double to right field to give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead.

The Baysox tied the game in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out rally against Reading starter Aaron Nola. With two outs, Garabez Rosa and Michael Ohlman walked before Marrero brought Rosa home with a single to left field to tie the game 1-1.

Jake Fox gave the Fightin Phils a 2-1 lead with a two-out solo home run to left field in the top of the third inning.

Bowie tied the game again in the bottom of the fifth inning. Marrero hit a lead off single before Glynn Davis and Mike Yastrzemski each reached on bunt singles to load the bases. Niuman Romero then grounded into a double play, but he brought Marrero home to tie the game 2-2.

The Fightin Phils took the lead back in the top of the seventh inning. Peter Lavin drew a one-out walk and moved to third base after a Logan Moore single up the middle. Julio DePaula then replaced Additon on the mound before Albert Cartwright brought Lavin home with a sacrifice fly to give Reading a 3-2 lead.

Bowie came storming back for the win in the bottom of the eighth inning against Reading reliever Austin Wright. Romero drew a one-out walk and Buck Britton singled through the hole at second base before Nefi Ogando replaced Wright on the mound. Ogando then hit David Adams to load the bases before walking in a pair of runs with two outs in the inning. Marrero cleared the bases with a grand slam to left-center field to give the Baysox an 8-3 lead.

Additon threw six and one-third innings and allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking two in the no decision. DePaula pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings, not allowing a hit and striking out two while walking one in the win.

Wright took the loss, pitching one-third of an inning and allowing two runs on one hit and one walk.

The Baysox are home through Wednesday, Aug. 21 for a seven-day, six-game homestand against the Trenton Thunder and Reading Fightin Phils. Promotional highlights include Legends of Wrestling Night with Kurt Angle Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 6:35 p.m. and Baysox for a Buck Night Thursday, Aug. 21 at 6:35 p.m.
