B-Mets walk off as Bowie falls 9-8

Baysox 2013IMG_9950It was a night where no lead seemed safe. Bowie lead throughout the game but could not finish off Binghamton as the Mets won a wild one with two in the 9th upending Bowie 9-8 on Friday evening.

Akron fell to Harrisburg so the Baysox do remain 3.5 games out of postseason position. Erie climbed within a game of Bowie and 4.5 behind Akron with a win in New Britain.

The Baysox grabbed control of the game early. Consecutive singles opened the game and 2B Buck Britton launched a long home run to right field to put the Baysox up 3-0 before an out was on the board. An inning later SS Garabez Rosa had homered to give Bowie a 4-0 lead and it was not over yet. CF Glynn Davis left the building with his first Eastern League homer, a two-out, two-run shot to left field and the Baysox had a 6-1 lead.

But the Mets battled back. They homered three times and knocked starter Jake Pettit from the game after only four innings. Reliever Marcel Prado allowed three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. Prado stayed in to work a scoreless sixth and seventh innings.

Bowie was able to recapture the lead in the sixth inning. With runners at second and third and two outs an errant throw back to the pitcher allowed Bowie a run. RF Ronald Bermudez jumped on the opportunity to score and Bowie led 7-6.

LF Mike Yastrzemski doubled and scored in the seventh inning and the Baysox led 8-6.

Binghamton would not be denied. A leadoff triple by CF Darrell Ceciliani set up a run to close the gap to 8-7. And in the ninth with one down, LF Brandon Nimmo doubled and then scored on a triple to right-center off the bat of 2B Dilson Herrera to tie the game. Moments later, Herrera came home on a wild pitch to end the game.

It is just the second game Bowie has led through eight innings in which they have lost this year. For only a second time on the season, the Baysox are now under .500 at 56-57.

The Baysox continue the series in Binghamton Saturday, August 2nd at 7:05 p.m. with LHP Anthony Vasquez on the bump. Coverage starts 20-minutes prior to first pitch on wnav.com.

Bowie returns home with a Tuesday Fireworks Show on the annual Navy Night at Prince George’s Stadium, August 5th at 6:35 p.m. against the Portland Sea Dogs. Get your tickets at 301-464-4865 or online at baysox.com.
