1st inning rally enough for Baysox win

Baysox 2013IMG_9813Bowie pushed six consecutive batters aboard amidst a five-run first inning in a 6-4 win over Trenton on Saturday evening. Trenton brought the tying run to the plate in each of the last two innings but failed to come back.

The big rally started quickly. With one down 3B Niuman Romero doubled to left-center which was followed by walk from 2B Buck Britton. DH David Adams singled home a run followed by a two-RBI double that scored two off of the bat of 1B Chris Marrero. After C Michael Ohlman walked, RF Garabez Rosa then doubled to left field to bring home a fourth run. The next batter, LF Glynn Davis hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the fifth Bowie run.

In the second inning, CF Mike Yastrzemski lined a home run that left the park in a hurry and it was 6-0 Bowie.

Trenton kept the game alive by forcing Baysox starter Zach Davies’ pitch count up and forcing him out of the game after five strong innings.

Reliever Ashur Tolliver worked out of a jam in the sixth inning. In came Julio DePaula who allowed a run in the seventh inning to make it 6-2. Trenton then loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth.

Bowie had to turn to closer Oliver Drake who recorded a six out save. He allowed two inherited runners to score in the eighth inning but then shut down the Thunder. Consecutive strikeouts ended the game.

With the win Zach Davies is 8-2 in his last ten starts. Drake picked up his 24th save of the year and his first since July 20th. Losses by Akron and Erie put the Baysox within 5.5 games of Akron and a game ahead of Erie for third in the division.
