Emergency crews were called to the Arundel Mills Mall shortly before 9pm for reports of a car submerged in a pond. Witnesses reported that a male, approximately 20 years old,  had not surfaced for more than 30 minutes.

Authorities learned that there was no car involved, and continued their search with assistance from the Howard County dive unit and the Maryland State Police with their helicopter. A security guard reports that he was chasing the suspect and he jumped into the pond and never surfaced.

Just before 10pm, commanders on the scene advised that they still had not recovered a victim and that the recovery operation would be an extended one. More details will be posted as they become available.

It is believed to be a retention pond near the Arundel Mills campus of Anne Arundel Community College.
