Festa Italiana returns to Annapolis

italianfest0909After a long absence the Annapolis Sons of Italy Lodge is hosting a Festa Italiana on Sunday, August 3, 2014 to be held on the Knights of Columbus property on Route 2 [2590 Solomons Island Road] in Edgewater, MD. Admission is free as is parking!

The Lodge is honoring Mother Cabrini who founded various Catholic religious institutions [1889 – 1917] to support Italian immigrants to the United States. The goal of the first Festa di Santa Madre Cabrini is to replicate and share the Italian neighborhood with guests,for all to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the heritage.

The festival will feature food such as fried calamari, mussels, pasta, meatballs, sausage & peppers, and wood-fired pizza. For dessert pastries, cannoli, pizzelles and zeppole are available, Continuous music will play with bands and dancers providing a festive atmosphere. How-to demonstrations on making fresh mozzarella, pasta and sausage will take you inside the Italian kitchen. Activities for children are available so they can join in the fun.

The festival starts with a 9:00 AM mass in the Knights of Columbus hall where all are invited.

Following mass, the statue of Mother Cabrini will be carried through the “neighborhood” with the Knights of Columbus honor guard and a marching band.
