Bowie falls short of sweep

Baysox 2013IMG_9706Akron jumped in front with a three-run fourth inning and did not look back as the Baysox fell in the series finale 7-2 on Sunday afternoon. Bowie grabbed two of three games in the series.

The Baysox got off to an outstanding start. RF KD Kang launched a home run off the batters eye in straight away centerfield to lead 1-0. But Akron answered quickly as CF Ollie Linton tripled to center and SS Francisco Lindor doubled him home to knot the score in the first inning.

Bowie threatened but failed to score leaving two runners in scoring position in the third inning. Akron broke through in the fourth inning. Anthony Gallas homered off of Baysox starter Time Berry to leadoff the inning. Later in the frame with the bases loaded and two outs, Linton singled up the middle scoring two more runs. Akron led 4-1.

That lead was too much for Bowie on this Sunday afternoon. Akron starter Gabriel Arias (7-2) allowed one more run on a seventh inning home run to left field from David Adams.

The RubberDucks scored three runs with two down in the eighth to pad their advantage.

With a Richmond loss the Baysox remain five games out in the west and now are two games back of Akron for the all-important two spot in the division. Bowie will play 13 of its next 17 games against Harrisburg and Altoona who sit in fifth and sixth places in the six-team Western Division.

Monday, July 7th RHP Zach Davies returns to the hill in Harrisburg to take on the Senators. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior to first pitch on wnav.com.

The Baysox return for a big four-game series against Richmond starting Friday, July 11th at 6:35 p.m. For tickets contact the Baysox at 301-464-4865 or order online at baysox.com.
