Berry shuts down Altoona

Baysox ImageTim Berry threw seven shutout innings and the Baysox rode the outing to a 3-0 win in Altoona on Sunday evening. The victory closed the series with a split of the four-game set.

Berry settled down after walking two batters to open the second inning. He was rarely in trouble in a game where Altoona mustered just four at-bats with runners in scoring position. The seven-inning shutout effort was the first start for Berry (5-5) without a run allowed this year. It was his tenth quality start in 19 starts this year.

Bowie grabbed the lead in the fourth inning. With RF Ronald Bermudez at first base and two outs, consecutive singles from 2B David Adams and LF Johnny Ruettiger brought Bermudez around to score. Bermudez went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs in the game.

The Baysox plated two more runs in the sixth inning after loading the bases with no outs. Adams drove home a run with a chopper to shortstop and Ruettiger made it 3-0 lining a ball off Altoona pitcher Emmanuel de Leon who recovered to get a force out at second base.

Bowie turned to Marcel Prado out of the pen who worked a quick 1-2-3 eighth inning. Closer Oliver Drake entered and worked a scoreless ninth inning for his league leading 23rd save of the year.

RHP Matt Bischoff enters the Baysox rotation Monday, July 21st as Bowie starts a three-game home series with Harrisburg at 6:35 p.m. The Baysox will be at home all week with Thursday, July 24th being the much-acclaimed Manny Claus Bobblehead Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans ages 13 and older.

Get your tickets now for the seven games over seven days by calling the Baysox Box Office at 301-464-4865 or online at baysox.com.
