Annapolis Green, Bud Light, and Keep America Beautiful teaming up to clean up

Green Drinks AnnapolisAnnapolis Green is organizing a cleanup at the Ellen O. Moyer Back Creek Nature Park on Saturday, July 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cleanup is a partnership with Keep America Beautiful, and one of a series of 60 projects across the country sponsored by Bud Light called “Do Good. Have Fun.”

Consumers 21 years of age or older can sign up for the Back Creek project by visiting upforwhatever.com. Advance online registration is required to participate.

Following the “Do Good” cleanup at the park, the “Have Fun” portion of the day will be held at Port Annapolis Marina next door. Port Annapolis is donating its pavilion space for the celebration that will feature Bud Light and lunch for volunteers. Port Annapolis is a certified Maryland Clean Marina.

“Back Creek Nature Park is a hidden jewel,” said Elvia Thompson, Co-Founder of Annapolis Green. “It features demonstration plantings and interpretive exhibits that show how to control stormwater, along with walking trails, picnic areas, and lovely views of the creek. The City of Annapolis doesn’t have the funds to give the park the attention it deserves. This project will bring people together, primarily young people, to give a helping hand while they learn about our environment. And of course, they’ll have fun, too.”

“We are excited to create fun times that benefit our communities,” said Rob McCarthy, Vice President of Bud Light. “Through Keep America Beautiful and its nationwide network of affiliates, our consumers and employees can help make a difference.”

Annapolis Community Boating, whose headquarters is in the park, is partnering with Annapolis Green, providing kayaks and canoes for trash pickup along the shoreline. Annapolis Community Boating’s mission is to make boating accessible and fun for all.

Keep America Beautiful is the nation’s leading nonprofit that brings people together to build and sustain vibrant communities. With its national network of community-based affiliates, KAB works with millions of volunteers who take action in their communities to transform public spaces into beautiful places.

Annapolis Green is a local nonprofit whose mission is to promote sustainability by connecting the community with an environmental message that is meaningful, positive and motivational, engaging residents, businesses, non-profits, government agencies, and visitors. Its goal is to make the Annapolis area the greenest in Maryland—a place where sustainability is a way of life and a source of pride—by accelerating the work of the legions of dedicated environmentalists and celebrating successes.
