Streak snapped in series opener

Baysox 2013IMG_9892aThe Baysox could not hold an early two run lead and Richmond continued its long winning streak as Bowie fell in the series opener 4-2 on Thursday night at The Diamond. The loss ended a four game win streak for Bowie and extended a season-best win streak to seven games for Richmond.

Bowie did have the early lead. In the second inning, C Michael Ohlman doubled to the gap in right-center field scoring 1B Christian Walker from first base to put the Baysox up 1-0. An inning later it was Walker’d turn. He singled home SS Garabez Rosa with two down for a 2-0 Bowie lead.

The clutch hitting stopped their for Bowie as the Baysox went just 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position in the game.

Richmond rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third inning. With two on and one down, 3B Mario Lisson doubled to right-center to tie the game. Lisson then scored on a two-out RBI-single by LF Devin Harris to give Richmond the lead.

Baysox starter Tim Berry registered a fifth consecutive quality start for a Bowie pitcher. He went six innings, allowing three runs in the loss (4-4). Bowie now trails first place Richmond by 5.5 games in the standings. There are still four games remaining in the weekend series.

The series continues with a doubleheader Friday, June 27th with two seven inning games. The first will start at 6:05 p.m. and the second will get going approximately 30-minutes after the first game’s completion. Bowie will send RHP Zach Davies and LHP Jake Pettit to the mound.
